If you’re fairly familiar with the world of electronic producers, you’ve probably heard of Maths Time Joy, but one name that you might not have come across before is Flores. Although from different genre backgrounds, these two artists appear to be intrinsically linked, first showcasing their sympatico nature on the London producer’s track ‘Afterhours’ a year ago. Since then the tables have turned as Norwegian vocalist Flores leads the creative flow towards her forthcoming EP, titled Afterglow via UK record label True Colours. Her style is sweet and brooding with plenty of nods to classic soul and R&B, as clearly heard in the sultry cut ‘Undercover’. Deep gospel backing vocals coax our ears to listen closer to Flores’ stand-out voice, which maintains its dominance even as MTJ’s electronic surge comes into play. Throughout ‘Undercover’, Flores is matter-of-fact with her lyrical approach: “Keep pushing me away, I’ll give my love to someone else, I need you to stay, but you want something else, I need your devotion…” Well, she can count on our devotion to this wonderful song. - HT
